Service In Brief: Summer of Football is a high-strike, low odds football service with a steady record of success to very achievable advised prices since April 2011.
Service in Detail: Summer of Football is a neat and tidy football service, with a simple strategy for making consistent football betting profits across a variety of popular leagues.
Initially developing the service to focus on Summer football (hence the name), they have since expanded to advise bets in a number of leagues across the globe. These include the likes of the English Premier League, Championship, Spain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil and the MLS in America.
The majority of bets hover around the evens marker with an average price of 2.07 from the 337 bets seen so far. Their goal clearly is to make steady growth and by attaining a high strike at such odds, it allows good steady growth and Return on Capital from the advised 20 pts betting bank.
The strike-rate for winning bets is 50.32%, with 43.87% losing and the remainder being stake returned (For example - Draw No Bets). It’s easy to see how with only 43.8% of bets losing and at average odds of 2.07 where their edge comes from.
As can logically be expected with a service that focuses on shorter-priced football bets, the majority are for home wins, although certainly not limited to this. You can expect other popular bets such as over/under bets, Asian Handicaps, double chance and both teams to score markets to be featured.
Bets are supplied on the morning of games, so you can expect a Saturday and Sunday email usually, alongside regular midweek action. They can come through early in the morning, as the service operator - James splits his time between the UK and Australia and so when down under is between 8 and 11 hours ahead of the UK time-zone wise.
Each bet usually comes with a brief explanation as to its selection with a recent example as below. Its concise to the point and ensures you understand why James has chosen it.
“From England, Championship
Blackpool v West Ham - Back over 2.5 goals @ 1.95
25 goals scored in 15 home games and Blackpool are in confident scoring mood (7 in last 3 games)
Blackpool have featured in 4 overs games in their last 5
West Ham have scored 22 goals in 15 games and importantly also conceding 16.
Blackpool love to attack at home and West Ham can be vulnerable so I think the value is over 2.5 goals tonight
Last 2 games between these two was overs”
As to how James arrives at each selection he says “There is no system only my knowledge of backing outcomes I feel there is a greater than 50% of them winning when the odds are evens or more. We do specialize in leagues where home form is particularly strong”
The service costs £24.95 per month (with an Australian payment link for our friends down under) and there is the option of a 7 day free trial to avail yourself of.
Perhaps the best aspect of the service is that all the odds quoted and settled at are those from the English bookmaker Bet365. It’s safe to say that through the simple usage of an odds comparison site such as www.oddsportal.com the returns quoted could be significantly improved as we detail a bit later on.
Service Proofing: We have been proofing all Summer of Football advice since September 2011, which includes 224 bets in total. The bets listed before this date were not proofed to any third party and can’t be officially verified. Comparing the records of proofed and unproofed bets doesn’t seem to suggest foul play or results manipulation.
Service Results: Results are fairly straightforward to understand with the vast majority of bets 100 points (as worked to a 2000 pt betting bank) with the very occasional 50 pt bet.
Below, we have copied the full results and monthly breakdown alongside a graph, which helps to illustrate the steady growth on offer.
Although the proofed ROI remains low by racing tipster standards at just 5.05%, the Return on Capital at 56% is strong and compares well against many others. If we go further back to April 2011, this ROC figure rises to 117%, ensuring your bank will have doubled at least during this period.

Month by month, we can see just 2 losing months out of 12 so it looks a fairly steady service with no major losses. You would expect over at least a 6 month membership to be showing steady growth.
The graph below indicates growth to the £2000 bank and profits since the service began. It’s a good visual illustration of how your bank can grow despite a low ROI, which as we know is not always the be-all and end-all. Our top performing tipster, Systematic Betting for example has a ROI of around 12%, but its key metric is how quickly it can grow your bank.
Betting Banks: James himself advocates a 20 pt betting bank, or £2000 if working to his £100 per bet stakes. The worst drawdown period during this period indicates this is a touch too low as he did suffer a £1073 (10.73 pts) loss at one point. We would be more comfortable adding extra cushion and therefore will recommend a 25 pt betting bank is probably most suitable. This naturally does have a knock-on effect on the Return of Capital figures.
Odds Availability: We are also very encouraged by the quoting of odds only available from Bet365, as almost without fail they can be beaten by using odds comparison websites. To give a recent example, James tipped up the following 3 bets on Saturday the 17th March at 745am:
· Fulham v Swansea - Back over 2.5 goals @ 2.0
· Watford v Coventry - Back over 2.5 goals @ 1.90
· Doncaster v Derby - Back Home Win @2.10
A quick look at http://www.oddsportal.com/results/ archive of bookmaker prices reveals that at kick-off you could get the following best odds on each bet:
· Fulham v Swansea - Back over 2.5 goals @ 2.0. Best odds of 2.08
· Watford v Coventry - Back over 2.5 goals @ 1.90 Best odds of 2.11
· Doncaster v Derby - Back Home Win @2.10 Best odds of 2.20
Significantly better odds were available in all 3 of the games and its without doubt that if using a variety of bookmakers (not just Bet365) you will be able to improve returns.
Service Practicality: In terms of practicality the only downside we can see are the occasional early morning emails as not everyone will be up and about at 7am on a Saturday morning. With this in mind though there should be little pressure on members to take the prices on bets as soon as they arrive as the above check on odds available reveals. The bets advised are often in markets that see lots of money so a tipster such as James will not have a large impact even if he gains a larger following.
Customer Service: As a member you can expect regular emails from James, which are written clearly and sent through regularly each week. There are also regular follow-up and summary emails to chart progress and we have no complaints and concerns as per customer service as it stands.
Service In Summary: James’s simple but effective approach of achieving a 50%+ hit rate on tips over evens has certainly impressed us over the 7 months of proofing to date. With the ability to dramatically improve on his advised returns and a simple straight-forward approach to betting, his service has a lot going for it.
At £24.95 a month and with a free 7 day trial it certainly wont break the bank to be involved and it certainly remains a service of strong interest to us, especially in the sometimes difficult world of football tipping. Although the ROI remains fairly low, we cant ignore the appealing ROC figures and the ease of following it provides. Continuous profitable performance, coupled with perhaps a slight uplift in proofed profit and ROI figures will see this service upgraded in future. One to watch out for certainly.
